Slaughter rose rapidly to fame in the early 1990s, achieving major success with hit songs like “Up All Night” and “Fly to the Angels,” multi-platinum albums, and extensive touring alongside major acts such as Kiss and Ozzy Osbourne. Their early momentum included gold and platinum records, a successful home video, and contributions to film soundtracks, establishing them as a powerful live band with a strong fan base.
Despite their success, the band faced significant challenges throughout the mid-1990s, including health issues, legal troubles involving guitarist Tim Kelly, and label changes. Even with setbacks like injuries and uncertainty around touring, Slaughter continued to produce music, release albums, and tour internationally, showing resilience and commitment to their career.
Following the tragic death of Tim Kelly in 1998, the band persevered with a new lineup and continued touring and recording. Into the 2000s, Slaughter maintained relevance through re-releases, collaborations, and consistent live performances, proving their longevity and enduring fan support while solidifying their legacy as a resilient hard rock band.
Vixen, founded in St. Paul, Minnesota by guitarist Jan Kuehnemund, became the only all-female hard rock band of the 1980s to achieve major commercial success, selling over 2 million albums, earning six #1 MTV videos, and placing four songs on the Billboard Hot 100. After relocating to Los Angeles and solidifying their lineup, they broke into the mainstream with their debut album Vixen, featuring hits like “Edge of a Broken Heart,” followed by continued success with songs such as “Cryin’” and “Love Made Me.” Their energetic performances and tours alongside major acts like Ozzy Osbourne and Scorpions cemented their reputation as a serious force in rock.
Their second album, Rev It Up, further expanded their success with popular tracks like “How Much Love” and “Love Is A Killer.” However, shifting musical trends in the early 1990s—particularly the rise of grunge—led to the band’s breakup in 1992. Over the following years, members pursued other projects, with occasional reunions and lineup changes keeping the Vixen name alive through new releases and touring.
After the passing of founder Jan Kuehnemund in 2013, surviving members chose to carry on the band’s legacy, continuing to perform worldwide and connect with fans. With new members joining over time, including guitarist Britt Lightning and vocalist Rosa Laricchiuta, Vixen remains an active touring act, delivering high-energy performances and honoring their enduring place in rock history.
